Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. We do not retain or log those search terms on our own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When you send an email or message, we may keep it long enough to respond and manage the exchange. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers receive routine technical details when a page loads:
- Page-view dates and times
- The referring site, when one is available
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
- Browser name and version
- Device type and operating system
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and outside analytics services help us view traffic in aggregate, including popular pages and common exit points. Browser controls can block cookies, though parts of the website may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
- Finding and correcting technical faults
- Maintaining reliable, timely page delivery
- Routing a submitted search to the selected partner
- Measuring which content visitors use
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. The content identifies official channels serving Isle of Wight County, including the sheriff, court clerks, Virginia State Police Central Criminal Records Exchange, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Access to existing local public records remains subject to the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, while Virginia Code § 19.2-389 governs dissemination of CCRE criminal-history information. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor information is not turned into a consumer report or a record about another person.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search tools shown on some pages. Their privacy policies, retention periods, and sharing rules apply to information entered there. We do not control those practices, so review the provider's policy before submitting a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Isle of Wight County Sheriff's Office, Virginia courts, state agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once you leave this website, the destination's privacy policy governs. Read it before giving that service personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select targeted ads.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
- Search partners that process a query sent through their tool
- Advertising networks that serve content on our pages
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices protect the information we collect. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, however, and we cannot promise that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such data, we will remove it.
Your Data Rights
Where it applies, the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act, Virginia Code § 59.1-571 et seq., may provide rights concerning personal data. Requests may include:
- Opting out of certain covered processing
- Requesting deletion of covered personal data
- Seeking correction of inaccurate information
- Asking for access to data maintained about you
